Like many small businesses, Nectar started out as a dream. After much marketing research, business planning, and the typical blood, sweat and tears Nectar was founded in August 2003. Nectar is owned and operated by Susan Renee Lloyd, a Virginia Beach local since she was a young girl.

Some say that Nectar reflects the “golden age of travel” through its furniture, maritime and aviation selections, vintage posters…even down to Louis Armstrong’s C’est Si Bon playing over the radio. Being less than a mile from the Oceanfront and less than two miles from the Chesapeake Bay, it’s obvious that Nectar’s merchandise would display coastal charm.

Susan Renee is enthusiastic about her store and about her customer! She notes that some of her regulars’ favorite items include the candles (Archipelago Botanicals, Trapp, and Votivo), Orla Kiely handbags, reproduction oyster plates, balance toys and weathervanes, and Palecek lighting. Nectar has been listening to its customer and is continuing to expand their baby section with silly onesies and T’s, along with beautifully painted signs.
